Which is the most beautiful place in Colombia? What should we visit? Where are there least tourists? These are questions that I often get. One of my top answers? Cabo de la Vela. This is the norhtenmost tip of South America. It’s indigenous Wayúu territory on both sides of the border between Colombia and Venezuela. An extremely arid area, without water pipelining, electricity or tarmac roads. But with extraordinary views, warm sea, tranquility and delicious sea food.
View from the lighthouse of Cabo de la Vela.
We took a bus from Riohacha to Uribia really early in the morning, had goat for breakfast as is the tradition in Uribia, and then travelled for several hours with the early morning water transport to Cabo de la vela.
Hostel El Caracol.
Our room was located this far from the Caribbean sea.
Another possibility, sleep in the hamacas.
Fresh from the sea, lobster for around 10 USD.
What do you say? Tempting?
